The Story

Tiger's have been the primeval predators that have roamed Asia since it's earliest days. India is home to the largest population of Bengal Tigers in the world. Tigers are a metaphor for the greatest royalty in India, and the same applies in the forests. In the magical forests that span from Pilibhit to the Nilgiris, Tigers roam in the wild. While the population is on the rise, deforestation and conflict due to growing numbers and limited territory does put this species under risk. I have been fortunate to explore multiple of these tiger reserves in India, from Ranthambore to Bandipur, and Kabini where most of my stories originate.

The Personas of the Tigers

I saw my first tiger when I was 10-years-old, in the jungles of Ranthambore, Rajasthan. I had my mother's Nikon Coolpix, a point-and-shoot action camera. My first tiger in South India was the glorious Backwater Female of Kabini or Kismet as we fondly called her. I have followed some of these tigers since their very birth to present-day where they are a key element of the forest. Along the last 8 years of my time in Kabini, I have grown alongside and built deeper connect with each individual, and it has been an incredible journey of being able to understand and meet each persona.

The Individuals

The almighty TT male or 'King Khal' one of the biggest tigers I have ever seen (tiger between trees). Backwater female aka Kismet, the tiger that made me the photographer I am today, she made me fall in love with the forests, and without her showing me the forests way, I would never be here (cover page). Magge, when I say I have seen tigers from their birth to their dominant era, she's the epitome. She is one of the three cubs pictured that has now grown and become a mother herself.
